Well we are back for 2011. We have a large range of activities for all Scouts. Including Patrol Leader training, day hikes, off-road cycle events and of course camps!

Troop night meeting 27th November 2009

Tonight the Scouts were given the challenge of knocking down a number of cardboard C3-PO's (which Skip got from Macdonalds) from the futherest distance. Panthers idea was the quackiest it involved a zip line doubled but alas it did not work!
Predictably two Patrols taped aload of sticks together to make a big stick! Some were more successful than others! Check out the photo's below.

Last night we spent some time getting ready for camp next week. We've got nearly 20 Scouts attending, some of the newer Scouts will be working towards the Outdoor Award and the older Scouts are working towards the Outdoor + award. With a view to achieving the Zchief Scouts Gold Award. Check out this blog for weekend updates.

Rockets

Last week the Aeronautics badge group finally managed to launch their very own rockets! They managed to do six launchs before fin repairs were needed.
All Scouts passed the badge and Kaa hopes to run another course in September. As always pictures can be viewed at www.2ndcrosby.org.uk in the photos/video section.

Sierra Leone Update

We raised over £128 by collecting loose change from all three sections which is a great start. This is enough to kit out 40 Scouts with neckers and badges.
Are next fund raising activity is collecting old jewerlley fir recycling. We send it off and get 50% of what is made, not bad really! You have until the 17th July to get your jewellery in. One luckily Beaver, Cub or Scout will win a mp3 player.

Troop night 19/06/09

Tonight we welcomed more new Scouts and a old face who left Cubs a while back but who has come back to Cubs. We looked at Fire Safety tonight Kaa and CCABWA used a smoke machine to recreate a burning room. The Scouts then had to locate a object in the room. Next week more fire related stuff! Here is a picture of the room with the smoke!

Troop Night 12th June 2009

Tonight we welcomed Ben, Ben & Pip who are moving up from Cubs.
Our current total for the change collection for Sierra Leone is at £42.80 with more to come in.
Tonight we practiced putting up tents in Patrols and had a few games of hockey. Tomorrow we as helping out at St Edmunds/St Thomas' school fair.

In preparation for out Troop night we have been practising lighting fires. Most groups managed to start a fire but some where bigger than others. Next week is putting up Troop tents as when they are at camp the Scouts will be doing as much for themselves as poosible.

Judo 15th May Scout Troop Night

Troop Night 13th June 2008

It was needles at the ready tonight. Mike & Helen from the 10th Cubs came along to help the whole Troop make camp blankets! We used fleece blankets with a sheet sewed onto on side. The Scouts are now blanket stiching around the whole blanket!
There is no Scouts next week as Skip & Kaa our at Cub camp, the week after we will be finishing off our blankets etc.

Bag Packing 18th May 2008

To help pay for some 'goodies' we held a bag pack at our local supermarket. Due to the hard work of Scouts, Cubs and Parents we raised over £375! Well done everyone. We will be running another one later on during the year.

This week we finished off the Guide Badge (last week we explorered our local area - Little Crosby) this week the Scouts tried to guess locations from aerial maps (thanks to Google Map!)

Troop Night 9th May

Since the weather has been nice we decided to go for walk around Little Crosby to get teh Scouts working as a Team. Kaa did a quiz to complete on the way round.
Three Patrols went out all three came back which is always a bonus! But one Patrol managed to break their clip board and lose all their question papers except for 1 map, we still haven't got the bottom of what happened!

Each Patrol was given a pack and tasting commenced!

All the Scouts loved the chewing gum and choclate (one Patrol even melted the chocolate!)
The oat biscuits were not so loved.
Some of the main meals went down really well i.e. beans and sausage, bugers and stew. The pasta bake was rank (according to Kaa!)

These packs will make a reappearance as part of a survival exercise so watch this space

Troop Night 19th October 2007

The Scouts tonight spent most of their time building lego trucks. These were donated free by LEGO (any Troop in the country could get some).

They are working towards the Model Makers Badge

It was really hard to get them to stop!!!!

We are off next week and the week after that is are bonefire night!

Kaa took his home with him!!

Feast of the Lanterns 12th-14th October 2007

Hi,

Firstly the last post was dated wrong it should be 21/09/07!!!!

Feast of the Lanterns was great. We invested Katie, Hazel & Charlotte, who all earned their 1 night away badge & the Outdoor Challenge Award.

The Scouts spent alot of the weekend cooking their own food on open fires. They cooked toasted sandwiches kebabs & burgers.

The display was good, but we never got chance to take any pictures because it was 'damaged' so not many people saw it lit.

We were quite luckily with the weather.

We hope to come back next year and win.
Photo's can be viewed in our gallery, you will notice that the girls don;t have a full uniform between them this is because of the postal strike!!!

Troop Night: 21/10/07: We are back

So we are back after the summer break, a Scout & Leader went with the District to Hampshire's International Camp H007 including a day visit to the World Jamboree.

We are using these first few weeks to build our Display for Feast, hopefully we should have some pictures next week!

Troop Night: 04/05/07: Tents & Video Planning

This week the Scouts practiced putting up Patol tents for our Centenary camp which is in 3 weeks. I also gave them the challenge of planning a video showing other Scouts how to use a camp lantern. Next week I will be posting these videos!!!

Troop night 22/09/06: Power & Conkers

Ok so I missed the first two weeks of this term!

Tonight we had a go at something which the Scouts hadn't done for ages - Conkers! Yes Skip spent Friday scrambling around his work place car park, getting strange looks collecting conkers.
We were luckily Antony didn;t hurt anyone, in fact he got hit! Even the Leaders wanted a go.

We also build our own batteries out of 2p pences and paper soaked in vingear/salt. No Scout actually got their battery to light a LED, but we did get some power readings of it.
Next time we may try stacking 100 2p pieces together.

Troop Night 7th July 2006

First tonight we had to fix some of the tents in time for summer camp. We also tidied the kit room because after 3 camps it was abit battered and untidy!!!

So after that Eddie & Ste ran two activities looking at what the Scouts knew about camping.

We ran flag break a little earlier because I had a few badges to give out including

Shelter camp 1st-2nd July

My god it was hot! It took us a while to set off because I had to go back to pick up the food which I had left at my house!
We eventually got to Tawdvale and yes it was still hot. After we had got our kit up to the campsite the Scouts started building their shelter. Eddie (Troop Helper) & I went off to watch England play Portugal (least said!)

When we got back the shelter was built and the Scouts were sunning themselves in teh middle of the field, but had strangely burned all the.

A few hours later (after finding more wood) we were happily sitting down to fire cooked chicken and burgers!

We then spent the rest of the night realxing round the fire.

Next morning was abit frantic but we managed to drop the site and get everything down to the carpark in time for CCABWA to pick us up.
This was a nice & realxing camp for a change and we hope to do another one next year.

District Camp 9th -11th June

Well one word can describe this years camp SUN and there was loads of it. For once there were no tents to dry. But enough of me going on & on.
On the Friday night there was a giant game of man hunt with the Scouts & Cubs having to chase the Explorers. It amazing what you Scouts will do for sweets.

Saturday morning was dry activities! We where running a base where you made your own pirate boat/hat (there is one fold between them!). Then they floated them in a paddling pool. Problem was the boats started to get wet and break up into little pieces. Which made our afternoon activity even more interesting!
For the afternoon wet activities we dumped a load of pieces of silver & gold plastic coins in the paddling pool. Which at this point was full with floating bits of paper which did look like seaweed.

Surprisingly everyone got wet, then dry (because of the sun) then wet again etc. Then came the cannon competition. Despite getting technical with carpet tubes and elastic we just couldn't build a working cannon. So we built a cannon 'barrel' out of hula hoops (the ones you hula with not the ones you eat!) and bin bags and used our water bomb launcher!

Of course the Explorers had there hand carved, super duper cannon. This year we opted to use a ball and we fired further than the Explorers but they won because there's was a proper cannon! So we came 2nd again! :)

We nearly killed off the Scouts & Cubs with Spag bol & chocolate cake, they just about made it to camp fire.

Sunday was the treasurer hunt (the prize was a water pistol) Then came the water fight & of course our water bomb launcher came out to play to!! Need I say anymore ;)

The sun stayed right for the whole of camp and we were able to leave alot of kit for the Cubs to use in two weeks time at their Wingding camp.

Troop Night: 02/06/06 Making & Painting

This week we were getting ready for District camp with the theme of pirates!
We made a huge sail with a skull on it, we painted it but the paint went through the floor!

We also tried build our cannon, ok it didn't work exactly as we planned but we have aload of parts which hopefully we can make next week. Fingers crossed.

We have also built a false cannon (thanks to the girls)

So hopefully we are already for next week!

Troop Night 26/05/06 All fired up!

Well tonight was the start of our District camp preparation. The Scouts were given a selection of tubes, elastic bands, poles, sellotape etc. To build a working model of a cannon for District camp. They came up with some good ideas, so hopefully we should have a half decent chance come District camp of winning the cannon competition. Next week we will be build the real thing out of Bungees and carpet tubes!!!!

Once the Cubs had gone we let the Scouts loose on the paint, to decorate their pirate t-shirts. The girls decided to have a vampireish pirate theme, but all they managed to do this week was paint the borders of their t-shirt, I look forward to see hwta they come up with.

Next week is D week! Were we panic like crazy getting everything ready, hopeflly I will be uploading some pictures of our cannons, sail camp gate & t-shirts!

Troop Night 19/05/06 Stoves Away

Well since we have some new Scouts I thought it was about time that we recapped how to use the various stoves that we use.
So first of all we showed all the Scouts how to use the main gas stoves, covering safety etc.
We then spilt the Scouts up into two Groups with a new Scout each, in these Groups the Scouts had to show the new Scouts how to use trangias and make chocolate for everyone.
No one was burnt and the hall is still standing so the night was a success :)

Troop Night 12/05/06 All tied up!!!

The weather was nice o I thought why not do some team building exercises. So we tied the Scouts to one another (hand, foot hand foot etc) and gave them the challenge of putting up a tent!
Once they got over the need to trip each other up, they did rather well, the exercise ended rather quickly when it started to rain!

Who thought leaves could be exiciting. Well they are if you get two teams of Scouts to try and guess which plant/tree etc they come from. That's what Alex's challenge was to the Scouts, one team finished very quickly, lea ving the other team trying to work out whether a leaf was a privet or Lime!

Troop Night 05/05/06. Is the World Fair!

Well tonight was food, food, food!, but also looking at how unfair the world could be. The main activity had the some Scouts with loads of food (developed 1st world countries) , while some Scouts had very little food but knives & forks (3rd world countries). The catch was you could only eat your food with a knife & fork, so bartering was the name of the game.
The Scout who came out on top was the one with all the water! But there was even a black market using sweets from an earlier game.

Tonight also seen the return of one of our helpers Eddie who as been off with back trouble. All the Scouts were glad to have him back.

So I have had this blog for a few months now, and finally I am going to start using it. I hope this blog gives you an idea about what we get up to at the 2nd Crosby Sea Scout Group. I aim to keep it updated weekly with photos and reports about what we get up to. In the summer we are off to summer camp & I hope to do blogs at leats every 2 days! Well here's to blogging!!!
